Sometimes we feel like God is distant, but in reality, He is always by our side, ready and willing to listen to our concerns and to speak into our lives. He also has a purpose and plan for each of us and wants to make our callings clear to us.

We can know this for certain because Scripture shows us how God speaks to and calls His people: In Genesis 12, God called Abraham to leave his family and friends to travel to a foreign land the Lord had prepared for him. Later, as recorded in the book of Exodus, God calls Moses, using a burning bush in the desert to get his attention. The Lord asks him to perform a seemingly impossible task and lead the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. In the New Testament, we can read about how Jesus called the first disciples to follow Him and about Paul’s supernatural encounter with Christ on the Damascus road.

Even today, the Lord has a purpose and plan for each and every one of us, and calls people to perform great acts in His name. In “The Call of God,” Dr. Stanley teaches us about four callings we all have:

4. The call to accountability
